BEIRUT — The Israeli army shelled Lebanon on Wednesday in response to three rockets allegedly fired from Lebanon earlier today, with no casualties reported so far.
Here’s what we know:
• Israeli artillery shells have landed in Sahel al Khiam, Kfar Shuba and Ibl al-Saqi, a correspondent for our sister publication L’Orient-Le Jour reported. This follows an initial round of Israeli shelling earlier today.
• The Israeli shelling has caused wildfires near Ibl al-Saqi and Rashaya Fawqar, local media report.
• Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee wrote on Twitter that the second wave of shelling was in response to RPG fire from Lebanon into the occupied Palestine land earlier today.
• Earlier in the day, the Israeli military reported via Twitter that three missiles had been fired from Lebanon toward Palestine, with one landing inside the Lebanese territory.
• UNIFIL’s head of mission urged all parties to “cease fire and to exercise maximum restraint to avoid further escalation.”
• No group has claimed responsibility yet for the alleged rocket fire from Lebanon earlier today.
