BEIRUT — The “factions of the revolution,” the popular committees, and civil institutions of the Palestinian refugee camp of Shatila, in the southern suburbs of Beirut, have called for the commemoration of the 44th anniversary of the Sabra and Shatila massacre, perpetrated on Sept. 16, 1982, by Christian militiamen under the approval and watch of the Israeli military.
“We will not forget… and we will not forgive… Their names will remain in our memory... Let us gather on this painful anniversary, and renew our commitment to pursue the Palestinian cause in our hearts and in our conscience,” wrote the authors of a flyer distributed to announce a gathering at 4:30 p.m. in the Shatila camp. All factions, popular committees, and civil society organizations plan to come together.
The Hamas branch in Lebanon also published a statement describing this massacre as “one of the most heinous crimes committed by the Israeli occupation and its agents against the Palestinian people” and promising to “continue its efforts to pursue all criminals and murderers responsible for the massacres and genocide committed against the Palestinian people in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon.”
