The death toll from the collapse of a building sheltering displaced Palestinians in the Tal al-Hawa area west of Gaza City has risen to 11, including five children, according to the Palestinian Civil Defense. Dozens of people remain missing as rescue operations continue, including at least 50 children. Parts of the building collapsed onto nearby buildings and tents also sheltering displaced Palestinians.
The building, home to approximately 70 displaced Palestinians, had sustained structural damage from Israeli shelling during its war on Gaza, said civil defense spokesman Mahmoud Basal to AFP. "The bodies of eight martyrs including children and 15 injured individuals have been recovered from the rubble," Basal said.
