These attacks on Syrian territory come after a recent surge in tensions between the two countries.

BEIRUT — The Israeli army fired two shells Friday morning on the area between the villages of Beit Jinn and Tilal Homr on the outskirts of Damascus, according to the official Syrian agency Sana. The two projectiles landed in agricultural fields without causing any casualties.

The previous evening, an Israeli patrol reportedly infiltrated the village of Ras al-Ajraf, south of Quneitra on the Golan Heights, as reported by the website of the al-Mayadeen channel. The soldiers apparently searched several homes.

These attacks on Syrian territory come after a recent surge in tensions between the two countries, despite reports of a meeting between Syrian Foreign Minister Assad al-Shaibani and the Mossad chief in Jordan, following an Israeli airstrike on the out-of-service Syrian airport of Abu Dhouhour about ten days ago.

That strike triggered tensions with Turkey, which Israel accuses of seeking to establish a presence in Syrian territory — a charge Ankara denies. Syria, for its part, has asked the U.N. Security Council to condemn these Israeli attacks on its territory.
