The Lebanese Army announced Friday that one of its patrols raided a house in Hawr Taala, in the Baalbeck district of northern Bekaa, arresting a suspect identified as H.M.
According to the army, H.M. is accused of taking part in an attack on an army patrol on Feb. 16, 2023, that killed three soldiers. Troops also seized ammunition, drugs and counterfeit currency during the raid.
The army said it also arrested three other suspects — identified as M.M., K.A. and H.A. — in Haour Taala for possessing stolen vehicles, weapons and drugs.
In a separate operation, troops arrested a Syrian national identified as Y.M. in the Sharawneh neighborhood of Baalbeck for illegal entry into Lebanon and possession of weapons, military ammunition, drugs and raw materials used to manufacture narcotics.
The Lebanese-Syrian border region was a major hub for the production of synthetic drugs, particularly Captagon, under the former Syrian regime.
The Baalbeck area is regularly targeted by military raids and security operations aimed at arresting suspects.
