BEIRUT — Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the Iranian attacks targeting Bahrain and Kuwait, following U.S. airstrikes on "more than 80 targets" in Iran overnight. The U.S. strikes came after fire was directed at ships in the Strait of Hormuz. This renewed wave of tensions culminated with Donald Trump's announcement of the end of the memorandum of understanding — and therefore the cease-fire — between Washington and Tehran.

"These acts constitute a blatant violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of both countries, as well as an obvious breach of international law and the United Nations Charter," Aoun said, who also expressed "Lebanon's full solidarity with Bahrain, Kuwait and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, stating that the security of these countries is an integral part of Arab and regional security." He then reiterated his call for restraint and de-escalation, and emphasized the need to prioritize dialogue and diplomacy.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also "strongly condemns the Iranian attacks," stressing that "such acts and attacks constitute a flagrant violation of state sovereignty and a direct threat to the security of international maritime navigation and global energy supplies." The ministry affirmed in a statement "Lebanon's full solidarity with these brotherly countries, their leaders and their peoples."

"Lebanon calls for the immediate cessation of these attacks and for full respect of Security Council Resolution 2817," adopted March 11, 2026, which strongly condemns Iran's "blatant attacks" against several Arab countries following the outbreak of conflict with the United States on Feb. 28, 2026. The ministry called for an "urgent session of the Security Council to ensure the implementation of the resolution and to put an end to these violations." "Lebanon also demands that those responsible be brought to justice in accordance with international law, and that all disputes be settled through the existing negotiation process, in a manner that preserves freedom of navigation, prevents any further escalation and strengthens security and stability in the region."
