SOUTH LEBANON — Telecom Minister Charles Hajj conducted a tour on Wednesday in Saida, south Lebanon, during which he visited the offices of the national phone and internet operator Ogero, as well as mobile operators Alfa and Touch. He also announced "the signing of the agreement related to the fiber optic network for the city, which was promised a year ago and has been realized thanks to the efforts of the ministry staff and Ogero centers."
"Our visit to the South, and especially to Saida, aims to highlight the presence of the state and its commitment to fulfilling its duty by providing essential services to support the reconstruction and facilitate the recovery of all of Lebanon following the Israeli attacks," Hajj said. "The deployment of the fiber optic network in Saida means high-speed internet access, increased job opportunities, a greater number of universities, and therefore an easing of pressure on Beirut and other cities," he added.
Asked whether there is a plan to assess the damage in telecom centers in the South, the minister explained that "it is difficult to carry out a comprehensive assessment of the damage, particularly because some areas are inaccessible." "As a result, we do not yet have all the information necessary to accurately evaluate the extent of the damage. However, we do have a clear plan to rebuild the South quickly and make it better than before," he added.
The minister also discussed the improvement of services by both mobile operators in south Lebanon. "The goal is to restore service to its previous level in the coming days," he promised, announcing that fiber optic would also be deployed in Nabatieh and Sour.
