The president of the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan (MBZ), affirmed Saturday to his Lebanese counterpart, Joseph Aoun, "Abu Dhabi's support" for Beirut, as well as "for the positions taken by the head of state and the Lebanese government." He also assured that his country is "ready to help Lebanon politically, economically, and socially" in order to help it "overcome the difficulties it is facing," according to the National News Agency (NNA).

During a telephone conversation, the two leaders reviewed the general situation in Lebanon and in the region in light of recent developments, notably the signing of a framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel under U.S. auspices, with the stated aim of paving the way for "lasting peace and security." Since mid-April in Washington, Israel and Lebanon, which are still technically at war, have engaged in direct talks, a first since the 1980s. At the end of this fifth round of negotiations on Friday evening, the unprecedented announcement of a framework agreement was made.

President Aoun thanked MBZ for his support, praising the backing provided by the United Arab Emirates to Lebanon and its people in all areas. He finally wished the Emirates continued stability, prosperity, and progress.
