Beirut Municipality’s stated on Monday that the Beirut City Guard removed uninhabited, informal tents in the vicinity of the Summerland resort as well as in the Biel area, the state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported.
"Based on the directives of Beirut Governor Judge Marwan Abboud, the Beirut City Guard carried out a campaign to remove a number of uninhabited, informal tents within the Beirut municipal area in the vicinity of Summerland," the statement reads. "These tents had been set up during the displacement period and were dismantled after their occupants had left and returned to their residential areas," it added.
The Municipality added that the removal of empty tents "erected on Beirut Municipality properties in the Biel area is ongoing, following their evacuation by occupants."
"These measures come as part of the continuous efforts undertaken by Beirut Municipality to reorganize municipal properties and maintain public safety, contributing to the restoration of the capital’s urban landscape," the statement added.
Israel's war on Lebanon, which re-escalated on March 2, forcibly displaced more than one million people in Lebanon. Amid the "cease-fire," some displaced people have returned to their villages in recent days. However, the majority remains cautious so far, especially as many agreements failed to bring a halt to the war in the past months.
