A mobile automated bakery donated by Jordan's King Abdullah II arrived in Lebanon on Thursday through the Masnaa border crossing, as part of ongoing Jordanian humanitarian assistance to people displaced and affected by the recent war, the state-run National News Agency reported Thursday.

The bakery has a production capacity of up to 3,500 loaves of bread per hour, or approximately 70,000 loaves per day, according to Jordanian Ambassador Walid Abdulrahman al-Hadid, who received the convoy alongside officials from Lebanon's High Relief Commission and General Security.

Hadid said the bakery "can be transported to areas affected by war or where access to functioning bakeries is limited due to fuel shortages or infrastructure damage." The unit is mounted on two trucks, one carrying the bakery itself and the other transporting fuel tanks, equipment and operational supplies.

He described it as "one of the most advanced mobile bread-production units currently available" and said it was the first bakery of its kind to be sent to Lebanon.

Bassam Nabulsi, secretary-general of the High Relief Commission, said the "donation reflects Jordan's continued support for Lebanon during times of crisis and would strengthen the state's ability to respond to displacement-related needs."

"Bread remains a key component of food assistance provided to displaced families," Nabulsi said, adding that the commission would assess where the mobile bakery could be deployed most effectively given its ability to operate in different regions of the country.

In early June the UN World Food Program (WFP) warned that Lebanon is facing a deepening humanitarian emergency nearly three months into the war, as mass displacement and rising prices continue to put food beyond the reach of vulnerable households. More than one million people remain displaced across the country, while soaring food and fuel prices, lost incomes and strained markets are worsening food insecurity nationwide, the agency had said.

In January 2025, in Gaza, aid organization World Central Kitchen deployed its first mobile bakery capable of producing up to 3,000 pita breads per hour to support displaced Palestinians. The organization had said the bakery complements meals prepared by local chefs and forms part of a broader relief effort that has provided nearly 90 million meals in the enclave.
