The Lebanese soldiers killed Saturday in an Israeli drone strike on a military vehicle on the road between Khardali and Nabatieh in southern Lebanon were buried Sunday in Beirut.
The coffins, draped in the Lebanese flag, left the military hospital in the Badaro neighborhood during a military ceremony attended by many relatives. Videos filmed at the scene showed families and friends visibly moved and in tears as one of the coffins passed by to the sound of an army band.
The strike, which killed two officers and one soldier, drew widespread condemnation in Lebanon.
The Israeli army claimed without evidence through its Arabic-language spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, that the vehicle was moving "suspiciously" toward its forces near Kfar Tibnit in an "active combat zone that had been subject to an evacuation order."
The army claimed that in the area, "all movement requires prior coordination" and added that the incident remains "under investigation." [Sure.]
