How 46 young people brought a historic Tripoli landmark back to life
Closed for decades, the al-Nouri hammam has regained its brilliance thanks to an extensive restoration project led by IECD, ALIPH, Fondation TotalEnergies the Directorate General of Antiquities, and the city's Waqfs.

The entrance to the al-Nouri Hammam opens at the start of Souk al-Dahab, next to the Nouri School and the Great Mansouri Mosque, in the heart of Tripoli. It is easy to find. Entering it, however, brings the strange sensation of crossing the boundaries of time.On June 2, visitors discovered a place suspended between memory and rebirth. At the center of the building is a fountain around which generations of Tripolitans once gathered. Above, a vast dome pierced with star-shaped openings lets in rays of sunlight that fall onto stone tiles. Wooden windows encircle the upper part of the building, while arches, cross-vaulted ceilings, and floral decorations, mellowed by the centuries, adorn the walls.Even before the speeches began, the hammam seemed to tell its own story.
