Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday that he had ordered the Israeli army to disregard the terms of the cease-fire that took effect in October 2025 and take control of 70% of the Gaza Strip, according to a video broadcast by an Israeli television station.

“Right now, we have Hamas by the throat. We control 60% of the territory of the Strip. You know, we were at 50 [after the cease-fire took effect], we went to 60, my directive is to go to 70,” Netanyahu said during a conference in the occupied West Bank. Channel 12 aired excerpts of his remarks on its website.

Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip have continued daily despite the Oct. 10 cease-fire, which has been repeatedly violated.

An overnight strike on a camp for displaced people in central Gaza killed 10 people overnight Wednesday into Thursday, the Palestinian news agency Wafa reported.

According to the latest figures from the Gaza Health Ministry, at least 16 people were killed and 39 others wounded in the enclave over the past 48 hours.

The latest toll brings the number of Palestinians killed by Israeli fire since the start of the cease-fire to at least 922, with another 2,786 wounded.

Overall, at least 72,819 Palestinians have been killed and 172,894 wounded since the start of Israel’s onslaught on Gaza in Oct. 7, 2023.
