'Plural Lebanon': In Saint-Malo, Lebanese writers and artists captivate France

As guest of honor at the Étonnants Voyageurs festival, Lebanon spent the Whitsun weekend in Saint-Malo immersed in poetry, cinema, comics, and debate, offering a portrait of a vibrant and complex cultural scene turned toward creation despite war.

Every Whitsun weekend since 1990, the corsair city has hosted the Étonnants Voyageurs festival—one of the leading French-language gatherings for literature and film, attracting around 50,000 visitors.This year, there was the emotion of seeing the Lebanese flag flying atop the ramparts of the Grand Large palace. As guest of honor for this 36th edition, the country was present throughout the festival, from literature to cinema, from poetry to illustration, with a series of meetings dedicated to Beirut, exile, Lebanese memory and history.
