SOUTH LEBANON — Israel carried out a double strike on a building in Majdal Zoun (Sour) Tuesday, killing at least five people, including three members of the Civil Defense, and injuring two Lebanese Army soldiers, according to a provisional toll released by the Health Ministry.

In the early afternoon, Israel carried out a strike on a building in this southern Lebanese town. A few hours later, while first responders and soldiers were on site searching for survivors under the rubble, Israel fired a stun grenade towards them as they were evacuating the wounded from the targeted building.

These attacks killed three members of Civil Defense, as well as a bulldozer driver and a person who was found buried under the rubble. At around 9 p.m., the Lebanese Army tried to reopen the Mansouri road, which had been cut off after the Israeli strikes, to reach the site.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun was quick to condemn the attack. He said the attack “adds to a series of assaults targeting rescue personnel,” stating that it shows that “ Israel continues to violate international laws and conventions protecting civilians, rescue workers, members of the Civil Defense and the Red Cross, as well as those involved in rescue, relief, and medical care operations," in a message posted on the X account of the Lebanese presidency.

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam also condemned the attack on the three paramedics “whilst they were carrying out their humanitarian duty.” He stated that this attack “constitutes yet another clear-cut war crime committed by Israel.” “It represents a flagrant violation of the principles and rules of international humanitarian law,” he added.

Salam assured that the “government will spare no effort to condemn this heinous crime and to mobilize all efforts to compel Israel to cease its ongoing violations of the ceasefire agreement.”

Lebanon’s Interior Minister, Ahmad Hajjar, condemned the attack for it “directly targeted three rescue workers whilst they were carrying out a humanitarian mission.” He described the attack as a “flagrant violation of all international and humanitarian laws and standards.”
