Deadly air strikes in southern Lebanon

In Shaqra (Bint Jbeil) an Israeli air strike earlier today on a house killed one person and iotwo injured.

Meanwhile, Israeli strikes on Jibsheet (Nabatieh), killed at least two people and injured 16, according to the Health Ministry.

Another person was killed in an Israeli strike carried out in the middle of the afternoon on Touline (Marjayoun).

In the district of Sour, a drone strike targeted Haniyeh whilst another targeted Mansouri. Israel also bombed Froun, in the district of Bint Jbeil, as well as Kfar Tibnit and the outskirts of Yohmor al-Shaqif, in the district of Nabatieh.

Israeli strike on Jwayya kills Ethiopian migrant worker

The Israeli strike earlier that targeted a building in Jwayya also killed a migrant worker of Ethiopian nationality and injured several people, reports our correspondent in southern Lebanon.

A further drone strike in the same area has halted search operations from beneath the rubble. According to the Health Ministry, the attack killed one person and injured 15 others, including children.

Three rescue workers killed in an Israeli strike in Majdel Zoun: Salam condemns a ‘war crime’

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has condemned the Israeli attack on Majdal Zoun that killed three members of the Civil Defense “whilst they were carrying out their humanitarian duty.” He stated that this attack “constitutes yet another clear-cut war crime committed by Israel.”

“It represents a flagrant violation of the principles and rules of international humanitarian law,” he added.

Salam assured that the “government will spare no effort to condemn this heinous crime and to mobilize all efforts to compel Israel to cease its ongoing violations of the ceasefire agreement.”

Interior Minister condemns Israeli attack on Majdal Zoun

Lebanon’s Interior Minister, Ahmad Hajjar, has condemned the Israeli attack in Majdal Zoun that killed three members of the Civil Defense, stating that the attack “directly targeted three rescue workers whilst they were carrying out a humanitarian mission.”

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has condemned the Israeli attack that killed three members of the Civil Defense whilst they were carrying out a rescue and evacuation mission for the wounded following a strike on a building in Majdal Zoun, the Presidency stated on X.

Aoun said the attack “adds to a series of assaults targeting rescue personnel,” stating that it shows that “ Israel continues to violate international laws and conventions protecting civilians, rescue workers, members of the Civil Defense and the Red Cross, as well as those involved in rescue, relief, and medical care operations.”

According to information from our correspondent, the other two victims are also civilians, including a bulldozer driver. The strike also injured two Lebanese Army soldiers.

Majdal Zoun: 5 people trapped under the rubble

According to our correspondent, five people remain trapped under the rubble following an Israeli strike on Majdal Zoun. They include three members of the Civil Defense and two civilians, one of whom is a bulldozer driver.

The Lebanese Army visited the scene once before returning. It is currently working to reopen the Mansouri road, which was cut off following Israeli strikes. It had reported earlier that two of its soldiers had been wounded in Majdal Zoun during an Israeli attack, whilst a rescue operation was underway.

Three members of Civil Defense trapped under rubble in Majdal Zoun; Rescue operations underway

The General Directorate of Civil Defense stated in a press release that several of its personnel had been “targeted whilst carrying out a rescue and evacuation mission for the wounded following an Israeli strike on the town of Majdal Zoun.”

As a result of this attack, three of its members are trapped under the rubble. “Civil Defense teams, in coordination with the Lebanese Army, are currently continuing their efforts to rescue them,” the statement read.

'An attempt to cut off the lifeblood of South Lebanon': Karameh condemns Israel’s destruction of technical institutions in Bint Jbeil

Education Minister Rima Karameh has condemned “the Israeli army’s destruction in Bint Jbeil of the technical school and the Higher Technical Education Institute, two adjacent buildings constructed in the 1960s,” considered to be “the largest vocational training institutions in South Lebanon.”

The minister described this as “a series of acts of destruction aimed at stifling the lives of the people of the South," by “destroying educational and vocational institutions,” in order to “deprive the inhabitants of any hope of returning to their villages and towns.”

Karameh also issued “an appeal to the conscience of the world to put an end to this criminal spiral targeting Lebanese generations as well as educational, vocational, sporting, and economic institutions.”

She renewed her call to “spare civilians, schools, and pupils,” stressing that they “continue to pay a heavy price, with many dead and injured.”

Katz threatens destruction in southern Lebanon, citing what the Israeli army did in Gaza

"Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and I have ordered the army to destroy all terrorist infrastructure within the security zone up to the “yellow line," both above and below ground, just as was done in Gaza, in order to eliminate the threats facing the inhabitants of northern Israel,” said Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz.

“Southern Lebanon must be treated like Gaza,” he added, asserting that the Israeli army had “destroyed underground terrorist infrastructure” in the “buffer zone” established by Israel on Lebanese territory, which encompasses dozens of villages.

The Israeli minister also claimed that “Hassan Nasrallah has destroyed the Shia community in Lebanon, and Naim Qassem is now causing the destruction of the homes and villages of that same community.”

Israeli strikes cause additional casualties in southern Lebanon

Israel has carried out strikes on the villages of Tiri (Bint Jbeil), Shehabieh, and Jwayya (Sour). The strike on Jwayya resulted in a so-far undetermined number of casualties.

Regarding the strike on the inhabited house in the village of Tayr Debba (Sour) earlier, the village mayor, Farid Naanoua, told our correspondent in southern Lebanon that there are casualties, but their number is still unknown, as efforts are ongoing to remove the rubble and determine how many victims there are. The mayor also stated that the targeted house consisted of three floors, and that children had been playing in front of a shop in the building when the strike occurred. He expressed concern that the number of victims could be high.

An Israeli reconnaissance aircraft of the "Heron TP" type has also been flying over the southern coast of Lebanon, including over Saida and its surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, a small Israeli drone crashed into a car on the main road of the Qleileh plain (Sour), near the junction of the village of Haniyeh, causing it to explode. This kind of attack is rare as Israeli drones tend to fire missiles onto their targets.

Speaking to Guterres, Barrot calls for reinforcement of UNIFIL in Lebanon

Hosted on Monday in New York by U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot discussed the situation in Lebanon and the “prospect of strengthening UNIFIL’s role” in securing the delivery of humanitarian aid to Lebanon.

According to a statement from the French Foreign Ministry, Barrot raised “the prospect of strengthening UNIFIL’s role in securing the delivery of humanitarian aid, in a manner appropriate to the security context and in close coordination with the Lebanese Armed Forces.”

The meeting took place nearly ten days after the ambush that killed two French soldiers from the U.N. force in southern Lebanon. Barrot reiterated “the safety and security requirements for UNIFIL personnel, as well as France’s commitment to ensuring that the Force is able to fully implement its mandate until its withdrawal on Jan. 1, 2027.”

France pays tribute to UNIFIL peacekeeper killed in Lebanon

A national tribute was paid Tuesday in the Marne region of northeastern France to Sergeant Anicet Girardin, who died at the age of 31 from wounds sustained in an ambush in Lebanon.

The corporal, posthumously promoted to sergeant, is the third French soldier killed since the start of the war waged by Israel and the United States against Iran on Feb. 28.

He had been deployed since Jan. 23 in southern Lebanon as deputy head of a canine unit specializing in explosives detection within the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

On April 18, during a route reconnaissance mission to resupply an isolated U.N. peacekeeping post, his patrol "was attacked by an armed group," explained the 132nd Canine Infantry Regiment of Suippes, where he had enlisted in 2016.

This attack resulted in the death of another French soldier, Warrant Officer Florian Montorio, and wounded three other soldiers, including Anicet Girardin, who had come to the aid of his unit leader.

Situation update in south Lebanon

Israeli warplanes carried out airstrikes on the villages of Shaqra (Bint Jbeil district), Majdel Zoun, Byout al-Sayyad (Sour), and Qabrikha (Marjayoun), according to our correspondent in the South.

Liquefied natural gas: First Gulf departure of fully loaded ship in 2 months

A ship fully loaded with liquefied natural gas (LNG) has transited the Strait of Hormuz, the first such passage since its near-closure due to the Middle East war in early March, according to Kpler, a firm specializing in monitoring commodity flows.

According to Kpler data consulted by AFP on Tuesday, the LNG carrier Mubaraz, controlled by the Emirati national oil company Adnoc, left the Gulf in April with 132,890 cubic meters of LNG on board, via this waterway which sees some 20% of global LNG trade pass through in peacetime.

The ship loaded its cargo on Das Island, in the United Arab Emirates, on March 2, and switched off its AIS transponder at the end of March for a month, before reactivating it on Monday off the coast of India.

Trump rejects Netanyahu's request to expand Israel's 'freedom of action' in Lebanon, according to Israeli media

The Israeli prime minister tried to convince U.S. President Donald Trump to expand the Israeli army's "freedom of action" in Lebanon during a phone call Tuesday, but Trump stressed that Tel Aviv must exercise restraint, Israel's Channel 12 reported.

Mr. Netanyahu told the US president that it was impossible to contain the attacks against Israeli soldiers in Lebanon and the firing toward northern Israel. However, Donald Trump insisted that Israel should not take any actions that could jeopardize the ceasefire at this time.


Following the call, Benjamin Netanyahu briefed the cabinet on the details of the conversation, as well as the fact that, from Mr. Trump's perspective, Lebanon and Iran are interconnected. He told the cabinet that it was “important that Israel not be perceived as sabotaging the negotiations between Lebanon and Israel.”


Even if negotiations with Lebanon progress, Israel believes that the “explosive situation in northern Israel could continue for many more days.”

A sit-in is underway outside the offices of the Central Office of Journalists' Associations (ESCWA) in Beirut to protest the killings of journalists in southern Lebanon, following the death of Lebanese journalist Amal Khalil, killed by an Israeli airstrike in Tiri, southern Lebanon, on April 22.

According to our reporter on the ground, Suzanne Baaklini, dozens of journalists gathered at 11 a.m. in an atmosphere of both mourning and anger to pay tribute to Amal and the other journalists killed in the war.

The victim's brother and sister were present, as well as a representative of the pro-Hezbollah newspaper, Al-Akhbar, for which the journalist worked.

Speaking to the crowd, the head of the Order of Journalists, Joseph Kosseifi, noted that Israeli strikes in Lebanon have killed 27 journalists and wounded 30 others.

“We are here to express our anger and condemn the crimes committed by Israel against journalists since 2023, up to the death of Amal Khalil. Journalists are protected by international conventions that are not respected by Israel, which directly targets them, which constitutes a deliberate crime,” he stressed.

Rubio: Hezbollah is at war with the Lebanese state

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on Monday, in an interview with Fox News, that "Hezbollah is not only at war with Israel but also with the Lebanese state."

When asked about the scenario in which Lebanon would join the Abraham Accords (which establish diplomatic normalization between Israel and several Arab states), he affirmed that "we are not there yet."

Rubio also stated that "Israel has the right to defend itself against an imminent or ongoing attack by Hezbollah elements... It is recognized in this agreement that Israel has the right to deal with threats that Lebanon cannot deal with."

He emphasized, however, that "the solution on which both sides agree is a Lebanese army capable of disarming Hezbollah."

Rubio also noted that Israel does not wish to maintain a "buffer zone" inside Lebanon indefinitely.

Iran blames US for failed talks

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi blamed the United States for the failure of talks to end the war on Monday during a visit to Russia, where President Vladimir Putin assured him of his support.

Attempts to revive discussions on a lasting cessation of hostilities and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz — initiated more than two weeks ago in Pakistan — have so far failed in the face of the firm stance taken by both sides, even though a cease-fire has been theoretically in effect for almost three weeks.

"The previous round of negotiations, despite some progress, did not achieve its objectives due to excessive demands" from the United States, Araghchi declared upon his arrival in Saint Petersburg (northwest).

Iran revises death toll from Minab school attack to 155

The bombing of the Minab school in southern Iran on the first day of the Middle East war in late February killed 155 people, including 120 children, according to a revised death toll released Tuesday by state television, IRIB.

In late March, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told the U.N. that "more than 175 students and teachers were massacred in cold blood."

But according to a new toll published by IRIB and local media, citing an Iranian judiciary official, "73 boys, 47 girls, 26 teachers, seven parents, a school bus driver, and a pharmacist from the clinic near the school were martyred in the Minab school attack."

The bombing of the facility took place on Feb. 28, the first day of the U.S. and Israeli offensive against Iran, which retaliated by striking targets in Israel and the region.

Situation update in south Lebanon overnight from Monday to Tuesday

Here are the latest developments in southern Lebanon overnight from Monday to Tuesday, according to our correspondent:

After 10:30 a.m., Israeli artillery fire targeted Majdel Zoun (Sour). An Israeli airstrike targeted Alman al-Sumerieh (Marjayoun). Explosions were carried out by the Israeli army in the towns of Shihine and Shamaa (Sour), Qantara (Marjayoun), and Hanine (Bint Jbeil).

After 11 a.m., Israeli artillery fire targeted the outskirts of Yater and Beit Lif (Bint Jbeil).

At midnight, Israeli airstrikes targeted the towns of Jbal al-Botm and Wadi Zibqine (Sour), causing injuries. Two Israeli airstrikes targeted Qleileh (Sour), also causing injuries.

Israel also conducted strikes yesterday targeting 18 locations in the South. Drones targeted three locations, and seven southern locations were hit by artillery fire. The strike that targeted the town of Braasheet in the Bint Jbeil district on Monday resulted in one death and one injury.

Hezbollah, for its part, carried out three attacks targeting Israeli military installations inside occupied areas in southern Lebanon.

Washington says it is reviewing Iranian proposals

The United States said Monday it is reviewing the latest Iranian proposals to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

A new Iranian proposal is "under review," White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said, following press reports that Tehran had made a new offer through Pakistani mediators.

Attempts to revive talks on a lasting cessation of hostilities and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz — initiated more than two weeks ago in Pakistan — have so far failed in the face of the firm stance taken by both sides, even though a cease-fire has been in effect for almost three weeks.
