BEIRUT — Electricité du Liban (EDL) announced in a statement that it has begun repairing damage caused by Israeli attacks on the distribution network in southern Lebanon.

EDL specified that the high-voltage lines connecting Zahrani to Sour (220 kV), Sour–Wadi Jilo (66 kV), and Nabatieh–Sour (66 kV), as well as all main transformer stations located south of the Litani River, have been isolated, cutting electricity to areas supplied by these stations, with the exception of the Marjayoun station.

“As a result, the company’s technical teams operated the Sour power plant independently from the grid to supply areas served by the main Sour station, while also launching repair work on damaged transmission and distribution lines, according to available means and security conditions,” EDL said.

The Sour power plant runs on fuel oil and has a reduced capacity of 35 megawatts, according to EDL’s website.

EDL also said it will keep citizens informed of any developments regarding repair work and the restoration of electricity.

Touch announces repair of more than 30 mobile network stations

Meanwhile, mobile operator Touch announced that its technical teams visited various sites in the South — north of the Litani River — as well as the southern suburbs, to repair outages affecting several of its stations.

“Technical teams succeeded, from the early hours of dawn, in repairing more than 30 stations in the South and suburbs, and telecommunications and mobile data services are now available for the majority of the company’s subscribers in areas north of the Litani River and in Beirut’s southern suburbs,” the company said in a statement. It added that it is “currently repairing damaged stations in West Bekaa, where network stability has been observed across the Bekaa in general.”

Touch said its teams will continue working “continuously over the coming days to ensure network coverage, for both calls and internet, at the quality expected by its subscribers in these regions in particular, and across all Lebanese regions.”
