U.S. President Donald Trump said Sunday he believes there is a "good chance" of making a deal with Iran on Monday, ahead of his deadline for Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face heavy bombing.
"I think there is a good chance tomorrow, they are negotiating now," the president told a Fox News journalist.
"If they don't make a deal and fast, I'm considering blowing everything up and taking over the oil," he added.
As deescalations talks are underway, Trump added that Iranian negotiators have been granted limited amnesty. He added that should a deal not be reached, the U.S. would "ideally ... take Iranian oil."
Trump also confirmed that the U.S. sent "guns to Iranian protesters earlier this year through the Kurds," but he said that "he thinks the Kurds kept them," Reuters reported citing the Fox News interview.
The comments come against the backdrop of Trump Sunday morning post on his platform Truth Social, where he threatened Iran: "Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the Fuckin' Strait, you crazy bastards, or you'll be living in Hell - JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah."
