Iran's new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, sent a message yesterday evening to Hezbollah's Secretary-General, Naim Qassem, in which he expressed confidence that he would be able to “thwart the plans” of Israel, which has been bombing Lebanon and invading its South relentlessly since March 2.

In his message, Khamenei noted that Qassem is leading the party at “a pivotal moment in the history of the resistance” against Israel. He nevertheless expressed his “confidence” in Qassem’s “wisdom, intelligence, and courage” to “thwart the plans” of Israel and “restore pride and prosperity to the Lebanese people.”

Khamenei, who was elected on March 8 to succeed Ali Khamenei, thanked Qassem for his condolences on the death of his predecessor and father, killed in massive U.S.-Israeli strikes on Tehran on the first day of the U.S.-Israeli offensive against Iran on Feb. 28.

Since the start of the war between Hezbollah and Israel, Israeli strikes have killed nearly 1,300 people in Lebanon, including more than 120 children, and Israel is openly boasting about its plan to occupy the entire area south of the Litani River.

Wishing "success" to the fighters of Hezbollah, Mojtaba Khamenei recalled that "resistance" involves sacrifice, adding that the party leaders who preceded Naim Qassem "gave their lives to defend the nation."

Qassem's predecessors have all been assassinated by Israel, including the party's emblematic leader Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in massive strikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut during the last war on Sept. 27, 2024.
