BEIRUT — Dozens of protesters took to Beirut’s commercial Hamra neighborhood on Friday evening to denounce Israeli attacks and show support for Hezbollah.
Protestors were seen waving flags of the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP).
At the demonstration, Hezbollah MP Ali Fayad said, "We will fight the Zionist enemy until our last breath. Those who struggle against American imperialism are on the right side ... Those who want peace in South Lebanon must put an end to the Israeli aggression and allow residents to return to their villages. Every inch of territory occupied by Israel strengthens the legitimacy of the Resistance."
The MP added: "Be proud of the Resistance and hold your head high, Lebanon will not be a toy in the hands of the Americans."
On March 2, Hezbollah opened a support front with Iran, plunging Lebanon back into war less than two years after the last war ended in November 2024. Fierce fighting is underway in southern Lebanon, with reports of Israeli army invading troops advancing despite Hezbollah fighters' resistance.
The party’s operations no longer enjoy the broad domestic support they once did. The government, seeking to reassert the state’s monopoly on arms, has declared Hezbollah’s military and security activities "illegal." President Joseph Aoun has proposed direct negotiations with Israel to end the war, a move rejected by both the Amal-Hezbollah alliance and Israel.
