Israel said Friday that it had killed Ismail Ahmadi, identified as the "chief of the intelligence branch of the Basij," a paramilitary militia tied to the Revolutionary Guard.
Ahmadi was killed overnight during the latest round of airstrikes carried out by the Israeli air force against Iran. His death comes just 48 hours after that of Gen. Gholamreza Soleimani, the former Basij commander.
"His elimination, along with that of the head of the Basij unit, adds to the dozens of high-ranking commanders of the Iranian regime's armed forces who have been eliminated during the operation, delivering yet another blow to the regime's security command and control systems," the Israeli military said in a statement.
