Emirati authorities announced Friday that they have dismantled a "terrorist network" financed and operated by Hezbollah and its sponsor, Iran.

According to the official news agency, the network was involved in "money laundering, terrorist financing and threats against national security," without providing further details.

On Wednesday, another Gulf country, Kuwait, said it had foiled an attack "by a terrorist group affiliated with Hezbollah," something the pro-Iranian Shiite party "categorically" denied the following day.

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior then announced that the country’s State Security Agency had foiled a "terrorist plot" targeting "vital facilities in the country" and that had been prepared by a group affiliated with Hezbollah. "Ten citizens belonging to a terrorist group affiliated with the banned terrorist organization Hezbollah have been arrested.

They had planned the operation in coordination with foreign entities and sought to transmit the coordinates of the targeted sites to them, constituting a direct threat to the country’s security," the ministry added, without providing a specific timeline.

These announcements come amid a regional war triggered by Israeli and American strikes on military as well as oil infrastructure. Iran has retaliated by targeting American bases and civilian infrastructure belonging to Gulf Arab countries. The conflict has spread to Lebanon, where Hezbollah has reopened the front against northern Israel, ending nearly a year and a half of cease-fire reached at the end of November 2024.
