BEIRUT — President Joseph Aoun met Thursday with the ministers of industry and energy to discuss maintaining industrial production and ensuring electricity supply amid the ongoing war, the presidency said.
Industry Minister Joe Issa al-Khoury briefed the president on measures taken in coordination with relevant authorities to maintain industrial production and stabilize the sector. Efforts are also underway to ensure the availability of essential materials in the Lebanese market and support industrialists despite the country’s exceptional circumstances.
Lebanon has been plunged back into war since the opening of a new front between Hezbollah and Israel overnight on March 1-2, alongside the war launched by the United States and Israel against Iran.
Aoun also met with Energy Minister Joe Saddi to discuss maintaining stability in the energy sector and continuing to provide essential services to citizens, according to the National News Agency. Saddi outlined measures to ensure the continued supply of fuel on the Lebanese market and to monitor prices.
Rising fuel prices in Lebanon have been driven by the war involving Iran, an oil-producing country, and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to oil tankers. In response, Electricité du Liban said Wednesday it was taking steps to ensure the country’s power plants continue to receive fuel.
