BEIRUT — Meeting in Parliament since 11 a.m., MPs voted to extend their mandate by two years, with 76 votes in favor, 41 against and four abstentions.
MPs cited the ongoing Israeli escalation in Lebanon, which has killed over 400 people and displaced almost half a million, as unsuitable conditions to hold the 2026 parliamentary elections, which had been scheduled for May.
