BEIRUT — The Israeli military said on Sunday that two of its soldiers were killed in southern Lebanon, marking the first fatalities among its troops since Israel-Hezbollah hostilities resumed last week as Israel intensified attacks on Lebanon.

The military did not immediately provide further details on the circumstances of the incident.

Hezbollah had announced on Sunday that it fired rockets and machine guns at Israeli soldiers and vehicles at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday as they attempted to advance toward Aitaroun (Bint Jbeil). Clashes continued until 3 a.m. Sunday, during a new attempted advance by Israeli forces.

Farther east, at about 3:25 a.m., Hezbollah said it fired rockets at Israeli army vehicles on the outskirts of Markaba (Marjayoun).
