Several explosions were heard around 8:30 a.m. Beirut time across Tehran, the official Mehr news agency reported, after the Israeli military said more than 80 fighter jets carried out a wave of strikes Saturday against Iranian military sites, missile launchers and other targets in Tehran and central Iran.

“More than 80 Israeli Air Force fighter jets carried out a new wave of strikes targeting infrastructure belonging to the Iranian regime,” the military said in a statement, adding that aircraft dropped about 230 munitions during the strike.

In one of the largest raids announced by Israel since the start of the regional war on Feb. 28, Israeli aircraft struck a military academy of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard that the army said was being used as an emergency operations facility.

According to the military, the site was used for military operations and was therefore “a legitimate military target.”

Other targets included an underground command center, a missile storage facility and missile launch sites, which the Israeli military said were struck “to reduce the scale of fire directed at the territory of the State of Israel.”

At the start of the U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran, the Israeli military said 200 fighter jets took part in the opening raids, describing them as the largest operation in the history of the Israeli Air Force.
