The Lebanese Army has withdrawn soldiers who were stationed at several points in southern Lebanon near the border with Israel, following the Israeli army’s “escalation,” a military source told AFP on Tuesday.
“The army redeployed its forces at several points where it had recently positioned itself” in the South, the source said, adding that the decision was made to ensure the soldiers' “safety.”
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced Tuesday that he had authorized the Israeli army to “take control” of new positions in Lebanon.
Residents cited by L’Orient-Le Jour’s correspondent in southern Lebanon observed the Lebanese Army withdrawing from its positions in the Majidieh plain (Hasbaya district) and on the Bastra and Azrael farms, in the Kfar Shuba hills, as well as moving its personnel toward the center of Kfar Hammam (Marjayoun district).
