Two Syrian nationals, (H. S.) and (B. S.), who were kidnapped by a “gang” last Thursday, were released on Monday by the Lebanese Army, according to a statement released by the military on Tuesday. A ransom had been demanded for their release, according to the army, which did not give further details on the case.
“Following a series of monitoring and security follow-up operations, a patrol from the Intelligence Directorate succeeded in freeing the two Syrian nationals (H. S.) and (B. S.) on Feb. 23 in Majdal in Wadi Khaled (Akkar district), after they were lured by a gang to the Cola area – Beirut, then kidnapped on Feb. 19,” the Lebanese Army wrote. Investigations are ongoing to arrest those involved, the statement said.
The Lebanese army coordinates such operations with the Internal Security Forces (ISF), a military spokesperson told L'Orient-Le Jour on Tuesday.
