Clashes have erupted in the Latakia Governorate between Syrian internal security forces and the Saraya al-Jawad group affiliated with remnants of the ousted Assad regime, local channel Syria TV reported Tuesday, citing an anonymous source.
The clashes are taking place west of Hammam al-Qarahleh in the countryside of Jableh, the report added.
In March 2025, clashes between security forces and Assad-aligned groups led to sectarian massacres, killing over 1,700 people, mostly Alawites.
Syria's President Ahmad al-Sharaa promised to prosecute those responsible for the massacres and formed an independent investigative commission,
The Muslim Alawite minority, from which ousted President Bashar al-Assad hails, has been the target of abuses since he was overthrown in December 2024 by a coalition of Islamist groups, led by Sharaa's Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham.
