The Lebanese Judges Association has called on magistrates to go on strike Tuesday "across all courts and judicial administrations, in parallel with the review of the 2026 budget bill" by Parliament.

The aim of the strike is "to bring about an improvement in the salaries of judges and legal staff, and to ensure the necessary logistics for the courthouses," according to a statement from the Association, which also called for "an urgent general assembly" of magistrates.

Parliament is set to examine and potentially adopt the 2026 budget bill on Tuesday, after it spent the last several weeks being examined by the Finance and Budget Committee.

Judges have repeatedly denounced the deterioration of their salaries, which have been hit by the economic crisis since 2019 and the depreciation of the Lebanese Lira.

They have also sounded the alarm about their working conditions and the dilapidated state of the country’s courthouses and judicial administrations, which are now unsanitary and lack water, electricity or even basic supplies.
