SOUTH LEBANON — Two consecutive Israeli drone strikes hit the town of Yater in the Bint Jbeil district on Sunday, killing one person and seriously wounding another.
The first strike hit a car in the area, killing Ali al-Hajj Kamel Kourani, our regional correspondent reported. A second drone strike hit a motorcycle, leaving another person critically injured.
Elsewhere in the south, an Israeli army drone dropped a stun grenade over Naqoura beach in the Sour district, while machine-gun fire struck Kfar Shuba in the Hasbaya district and Aita al-Shaab in Bint Jbeil.
Also Sunday, the Lebanese Army said a specialized unit uncovered and dismantled a camouflaged Israeli surveillance device fitted with a camera in the town of Yaroun (Bint Jbeil district), during ongoing engineering survey operations in southern Lebanon.
Israeli demolition in Labbouneh and artillery fire
The attacks followed a period of relative calm earlier on Sunday. On Saturday evening, after 8 p.m., residents in the western sector of the border area heard a loud explosion caused by an Israeli army demolition in Labbouneh, on the outskirts of Naqoura. There were no immediate reports about the details of the damage caused.
Later on Saturday night, after 11 p.m., Israeli forces fired machine guns toward Bastara, near Kfar Shuba, and launched flares over the area, our correspondent reported.
Israel has continued its strikes in southern Lebanon, saying it is targeting Hezbollah fighters and infrastructure and accusing the group of rearming in violation of the cease-fire. Those accusations were repeated on Sunday by U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham after a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The Israeli army also continues to occupy at least six positions in southern Lebanon, while conducting near-daily attacks in Lebanon.
Lebanon’s Health Ministry says more than 330 people have been killed and 945 wounded since a cease-fire took effect in November 2024.
