BEIRUT — The Public Administration Civil Servants' Union has called on all public sector employees to "observe a strike on Dec. 15, 16 and 17, 2025," threatening further escalation "if the authorities continue to turn a deaf ear to civil servants' demands."
Since Lebanon's economic and financial crisis began in 2019, and with the unprecedented devaluation of the national currency, which has lost more than 90 percent of its value, civil servants' salaries, paid in Lebanese lira, have dwindled dramatically.
They are therefore calling on the government for an adjustment of their incomes so they can regain a standard of living comparable to that before the crisis. But the government has been slow to place this issue on the agenda of its meetings, in a country where resources remain severely lacking.
In its statement, the Union criticized policymakers "who continue their stalling tactics and delay the implementation of promises made to civil servants, thereby ignoring employees' rights and commitments made by the state."
It has therefore asked all civil servants in all public administrations, including those that remain operational during the holidays, "to observe this strike on Dec. 15, 16 and 17, with open meetings ongoing and escalation considered, as well as continued efforts to seek a solution."
