BEIRUT — The Israeli airstrikes that targeted the Jabal Safi area and the outskirts of Roumin in Iqlim al-Tuffah (Nabatieh district) on Monday night damaged the Jbaa public school, prompting the school's administration to announce a temporary suspension of classes until the safety of the building is confirmed, our correspondent in the South reported.
In parallel, local teams are assessing the damage and monitoring the condition of homes struck by the strikes.
After Israeli warplanes fired six missiles on the area, the Israeli army's spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, claimed that the strikes targeted “a training complex used by Hezbollah's Radwan unit, [as well as] military buildings and a Hezbollah launch site."
On Tuesday morning, hours after these strikes, Israeli attacks continued as an Israeli army unit infiltrated across the border and advanced several hundred meters into the center of the village of Odaisseh in the Marjayoun district, where it detonated a house near the municipal square on the main road before withdrawing.
In parallel, residents of the town of Khiam (Marjayoun) reported that an Israeli force infiltrated at dawn from the newly established occupied position on Hamames Hill and proceeded to blow up several houses in the area of Wadi al-Asafir, in the village’s southern neighborhood.
Later on Tuesday, Israeli forces carried out at least three sweeping operations with machine-guns, targeting the outskirts of the village of Kfar Shuba (Hasbaya), Naqoura (Sour) and the Khiam plain (Marjayoun). At least two of these operations were made from newly established occupied positions on Lebanese territory.
Separately, a source in the village of Deir Siryan (Marjayoun) told our correspondent that the Lebanese Army and the Lebanese Civil Defense found two days ago near the village’s pond the remains of a person who was killed during last year's war between Hezbollah and Israel. The remains were transported, and the necessary tests would be made to determine the person’s identity.
Despite Lebanon's appointment last week of a civilian, former Ambassador Simon Karam, to the cease-fire monitoring “mechanism,” responding to a request from the U.S. and Israel, Israel continues to attack Lebanon in violation of the cease-fire agreement reached in November 2024. Israeli violations have topped 12,000 since the truce came into effect, including the killing of more than 350 people.
Israel says it is thwarting Hezbollah's alleged attempts to rebuild, even as the Lebanese Army has committed to disarming it south of the Litani River.
