One year since Assad's fall: Celebrations in Tripoli and Saida

Gatherings were held in Tripoli and Saida, in northern and southern Lebanon, as well as in several villages in Akkar, to celebrate the first anniversary of the fall of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, our correspondents report.

In Tripoli, dozens of people from various neighborhoods, notably the predominantly Sunni Bab al-Tabbaneh area, gathered in al-Nour Square.

Participants held up portraits of the new Syrian president, Ahmad al-Sharaa, as well as Syrian flags, with traditional anthems playing in the background.

Several localities in Akkar also saw processions of cars and motorbikes to mark the event, particularly the border village of Sheikh Ayash, our correspondent notes.

A video filmed in this village shows a convoy of cars and two-wheelers parading on Sunday.

Elsewhere, in Saida, a major city in the South, a convoy of cars drove through the city's streets the evening before, waving Syrian flags. The vehicles briefly stopped at Elia Square and set off fireworks.
