Far-right lawmaker Tzvi Succot has suggested using lethal force against Palestinians who set fire to waste in the occupied West Bank, Haaretz reports.
Speaking from the Knesset during a session of the Interior and Environmental Protection Committee focused on illegal waste burning in the West Bank, Succot declared that “the air force should act and kill them.”
Environment Minister Idit Silman and the committee’s chairman, Yitzhak Kroizer, expressed their agreement.
More than 500,000 Israelis now live in West Bank settlements that the U.N. deems illegal under international law, amid some three million Palestinians.
Violence there has surged since the start of Israel's war on the Gaza Strip. The violence has not abated despite the cease-fire that went into effect in Gaza on Oct. 10.
In August 2025, Israel officially approved the creation of the E1 settlement, a key construction project of 3,400 housing units in the occupied West Bank, which critics say would split the Palestinian territory in two and block the possible creation of a contiguous Palestinian state.
