Palestinian Hamas militants and Egyptian workers accompanied by members of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) use a digger as they search for the last two remaining bodies of hostages -an Israeli soldier and a Thai national- under the rubble of the Jabalia refugee camp, in the northern of Gaza Strip on Dec. 1, 2025. The Gaza war was sparked by Hamas's Oct. 7, 2023 attack on Israel, resulting in the deaths of 1,221 people and the taking 251 hostage. Israel's retaliatory assault on Gaza has killed over 70,000 people, according to figures from the health ministry that the U.N. considers reliable. (Credit: Omar aL-Qattaa/AFP)
Israel said on Tuesday it was preparing to receive from the Red Cross unspecified "elements" found in the Gaza Strip, where militants are still holding the bodies of two deceased hostages.
The statement from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office did not elaborate on what the elements were, but added they "will be examined by the National Center of Forensic Medicine".
The office added that authorities were in "continuous contact with the families of the two fallen hostages" — Israeli Ran Gvili and Thai national Sudthisak Rinthalak.
Under the terms of a U.S.-brokered cease-fire that went into effect in October, Palestinian militants have handed over 20 living hostages, and the remains of 26 out of 28 deceased ones.
