After Touch, it is now the turn of Lebanon’s second mobile operator, Alfa, to announce adjustments and improvements to its services to ensure optimal connectivity during the visit of Pope Leo XIV, expected Sunday Nov. 30, including the activation of 5G for the first time in the country in certain areas.
Large crowds are expected at various stages of the pontiff’s visit, which could cause network overloads for operators.
Within this framework, Alfa announced a "comprehensive plan to strengthen the availability of its network at key locations that are expected to experience heavy attendance throughout the visit."
The company has "increased network capacity and expanded bandwidth in the different gathering areas" and activated 5G services at "nine stations set up especially for the occasion," a service available "for the first time in Lebanon for Alfa subscribers with compatible devices, in the gathering zones."
Network capacity for 4G has also been improved, as has internet connectivity along Beirut’s waterfront, where the large papal mass is scheduled to take place on Tuesday. Stations have also been installed in Annaya, where the Holy Father will visit the tomb of Saint Charbel Makhlouf, in the mountains above Jbeil, and in Bkerke, seat of the Maronite Patriarchate.
A special offer will also be valid during the three days of the visit, the operator announced.
