BEIRUT — Since Tuesday, a segment from a sketch by Lebanese comedian Mario Moubarak — originally published in full on May 18 by the Awk.word Comedy Club — has stirred controversy on social media. Right-wing Christian groups have criticized the clip’s resurfacing just days before the pope’s visit to Lebanon set for Nov. 30 to Dec. 2.In the clip, Moubarak says, “Jesus’ burial probably wasn’t successful, since in the end he got up.”According to a source close to the comedian, the Christian group Jnoud al-Rabb (Soldiers of the Lord) was the first to re-share the clip “for malicious reasons, suggesting it was Mario himself who had just posted it.”The source said Moubarak received “multiple death threats” after his phone number was circulated online.
