Kataeb leader and MP Samy Gemayel has been elected vice president of the executive council of the International Alliance of Democratic Centrists, according to a statement published Monday by the state-run National News Agency (NNA).
The vote took place on Nov. 22, according to posts by members of the organization on their X accounts. This NGO, founded in 1960 and based in Brussels, describes itself as "the largest international political organization bringing together centrist and center-right parties, united by their commitment to promote and defend democracy, human rights and the rule of law."
Former Colombian President Andrés Pastrana Arango was re-elected to head the organization’s executive council, which includes several vice presidents from various regions.
According to a Kataeb statement, "Andrés Pastrana and Antonio López-Istúriz expressed, during a conversation with Samy Gemayel after the elections, their appreciation for the central role played by Lebanon and the Kataeb party within the Alliance, and wished him every success in his new functions."
