IFC announces $80 million in financing for several projects in Lebanon

The private arm of the World Bank will help the Lebanese government lay the groundwork to modernize and expand the Deir Ammar power plant.

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) announced on Thursday, in a press release, the launch of “new investments and engagement” involving Lebanese companies for a total of at least $80 million.This marks the first major announcement from the World Bank’s private arm since the start of the 2019 crisis, following a long period of absence and a modest resumption in 2024, including a loan granted to MAN Enterprise and its Lebanese subsidiary MAN Holding SAL.The new projects, which focus on energy, industry, and microfinance, “are part of a broader strategy to support the country’s reconstruction and recovery and are fully aligned with the government’s new economic vision,” according to the press release.
