BEIRUT — Yassin Fawaz, an unsuccessful candidate in the 2022 parliamentary elections for the Shiite seat in the Beirut II district, was arrested Wednesday night for "financial reasons," a security source confirmed to L'Orient-Le Jour.

Known as "King Rolodex" on social networks, where he regularly showcases a luxurious lifestyle to his nearly one and a half million Instagram followers, Fawaz was reportedly arrested in Antelias, a suburb north of Beirut, according to several Lebanese media outlets.

According to information from the local news site Al-Akhbar, Fawaz, the son of businessman Qassem Fawaz, had spent more than a month on the run, refusing to appear before police over the settlement of several debts. Initially banned from traveling, "King Rolodex" was subsequently summoned by authorities before being arrested Wednesday night.

The man, who is also nicknamed "the Rolex King" after the Swiss watches he sports on his wrist, rose to prominence during the 2022 legislative campaign, when he handed out money to people in the street and on social media. At the time, the Saudi outlet Arab News referred to him as "Robin Hood," in reference to the legendary character who steals from the rich to give to the poor.
