ALEPPO — Nearly seven months after the bloody events that took place in western Syria in early March 2025, a historic trial opened Tuesday morning at the Aleppo Palace of Justice.

According to our reporter on site, 14 defendants will be tried today for these crimes, which left more than 1,700 people dead, including a large number of Alawite civilians who were victims of executions and massacres.

In accordance with a commitment made by Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa, a national commission issued a report in mid-July meant to clarify the course of these massacres, which were triggered by clashes between militias loyal to the former Assad regime and the security forces of the new Syrian government.

The 14 individuals called to the stand are accused of being supporters of the ousted regime.
