The new U.S. ambassador to Lebanon, Michel Issa, will arrive in Beirut on Friday, over a month after his official nomination by U.S. Congress, according to LBCI.
Appointed by President Donald Trump in March, Issa will meet on Monday with President Joseph Aoun, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam.
Issa “will not address the Israeli position on negotiations with Lebanon during these initial meetings,” according to LBCI.
In July, before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Issa called for urgent action against Hezbollah, stating that its disarmament was not an option but a necessity.
A friend and golf partner of Trump, Issa will succeed Lisa Anne Johnson at the chancery in Awkar (Metn). Johnson was appointed in January 2024.
