The airport inspection brigade thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large sum of counterfeit money to Turkey on Nov. 6, 2025, the General Directorate of the Internal Security Forces announced on Friday.
According to the statement, the brigade “seized a total of $207,100 in counterfeit U.S. dollars, consisting of 18 bundles of $50 bills and $117,100 in $100 bills, as well as an additional $20,000 in counterfeit money.” The money had been carefully hidden under the clothing of two Lebanese sisters, aged 36 and 25.
During questioning, the older sister stated that she had met an unidentified individual who asked her to transport money to Turkey in exchange for payment. She added that she enlisted the help of her sister for this task. The younger sister confirmed her sister’s account.
The counterfeit bills, along with the mobile phones in their possession, were confiscated.
