The 20-point plan to end the war in Gaza is less than satisfactory for the region's countries. Nonetheless, they find themselves in a position where they are forced to accept it as it is.

U.S. President Donald Trump wanted to show the world that he was in control. After categorically rejecting any annexation of the West Bank last week, he hosted a phone call between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Qatari counterpart on Sept. 29 at the White House so that Netanyahu could apologize for the strikes on Doha. Ultimately, Trump managed to have his guest accept his 20-point plan to end the war in Gaza. During a joint press conference following the meeting between the two, Netanyahu called Trump the “best friend Israel has ever had in the White House.”Accepting the plan, apologizing to Qatar… this was humiliation enough for Netanyahu, which meant Trump could avoid criticism from his own base, which fears that Israeli interests would take precedence over “America First.” It was also enough to satisfy Arab...
