BEIRUT — The Lebanese Army arrested a man from southern Lebanon's Jezzine district on Monday who was allegedly involved in the armed parade organized on Friday in the Zoqaq al-Blat neighborhood in Beirut during a commemorative Ashura march.
The arrest was made following "surveillance and tracking operations" conducted by the army's intelligence directorate in pursuit of armed individuals present at the Zoqaq al-Blat march. The army seized a "war pistol" that was in the suspect's possession, according to the army statement.
"The seized items have been handed over to the competent authorities, and an investigation has been opened under the supervision of the judiciary," the text reads.
Justice Minister Adel Nassar stated on Saturday that the public prosecutor at the Court of Cassation, Jamal Hajjar, had informed him that summonses have begun for those involved in this particular Ashura march. The minister also asked the judge to "immediately take legal measures against all those who participated in the armed demonstration in the streets of Beirut."
