BEIRUT — A man wanted for several counts of drug trafficking and fraud was arrested in the southern suburbs of Beirut in mid-June, according to a statement released by the ISF (Internal Security Forces) on Sunday.
On June 17, following a "surveillance operation" and an investigation, a patrol from the ISF's Intelligence Branch "caught the suspect red-handed" in the Hadath neighborhood, "as he was about to commit a new theft aboard a moped without a license plate," the ISF statement reads. The man was identified as a Lebanese man in his early 30s who was the subject of three arrest warrants for drug-related cases.
"During his interrogation, the man admitted to having committed more than a dozen thefts in the neighborhoods of Hadath, Mreijeh, Hay al-Sellom, and on the Hadi Nasrallah motorway," in the southern suburbs. "He approached passersby asking them to change money for him, pretending to return shortly with the amount owed, before fleeing on a motorcycle. He also admitted to taking drugs," the ISF said.
