BEIRUT — A Lebanese Army patrol on Thursday thwarted an attempt to smuggle shells and explosives from Syria into Lebanon, in the locality of Bsaibes (Baalbeck-Hermel district). According to a message posted on the army's X account, the patrol seized a certain quantity of shells and explosives, which have been handed over to the authorities. Investigations and measures are underway to arrest those involved.

The Lebanese Army has been heavily deployed at the border between Syria and Lebanon since the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime, and regularly thwarts smuggling attempts, in order to strengthen border control and combat smuggling and trafficking. It has also announced on numerous occasions in recent months the closure of illegal cross-border passages in the Baalbeck region.
