BEIRUT — The United Arab Emirates said Tuesday they evacuated 24 people from an oil tanker that collided with another vessel in the Gulf of Oman.

The British maritime security agency Ambrey had earlier reported an "incident" off the Emirati port of Khor Fakkan, near the Strait of Hormuz, stating that it "was not security-related."

"The National Guard Coast Guard conducted today, Tuesday [...] an evacuation mission of 24 crew members from the oil tanker ADALYNN, following a collision between two ships in the Gulf of Oman," Emirati authorities said in a statement, without providing further details.

The collision occurred 24 nautical miles off the Emirati coast, near the Strait of Hormuz, through which one-third of the world's hydrocarbon maritime traffic passes. It comes amid heightened tensions in the region after five days of missile exchanges and war threats between Israel and Iran.
