BEIRUT — The Joint Palestinian Action Committee in Lebanon reiterated its support for UNRWA and rejected any alternatives for providing services and humanitarian aid, during a meeting on Wednesday at the Palestinian Embassy, where they discussed the situation in refugee camps, particularly living conditions.

UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, is facing a major financial crisis, exacerbated by the suspension of funding from several international donors, including the United States.

The participants emphasized, in a statement published following the meeting, "the unity of the Palestinian position in addressing the issues of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon in a way that ensures them a dignified life and strengthens the fraternal Lebanese-Palestinian relationship," reports the state-run National News Agency (NNA.)

The committee also emphasized the importance of maintaining security and stability in the camps and Palestinian communities, in coordination with Lebanese authorities. It expressed solidarity with Palestinians in all occupied territories, including the West Bank, Jerusalem, and Gaza, condemning the ongoing violence, displacement, and suffering caused by Israeli actions.

The meeting also praised "all the peoples and states who have stood with our Palestinian people and continue to support their just cause and legitimate rights."

The disarmament of Palestinian refugee camps is scheduled to start in mid-June. On June 4, President Joseph Aoun met with Ramez Dimashkieh, head of the Lebanese-Palestinian dialogue committee, at the Baabda Palace. Dimashkieh briefed Aoun on ongoing talks with the Palestinian side about how to implement the decision to collect weapons from the camps, part of Lebanon's plan to reassert control over armed forces. This plan was agreed upon by Aoun and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on May 21.
